CAROLINE JESTER is a writer and dramaturg, and was Literary Manager at the Birmingham Rep, working across productions including EUROPA, a multilingual play which toured the UK, Germany, Poland and Croatia. Caroline has also worked with Kali Theatre, New Earth Theatre (setting up new writing programs with NT Studio, Arcola and Storyhouse theatres).

As a playwright, Caroline’s work includes THE DANCING CLUB (sold-out west midlands tour, Sir Barry Jackson Trust Award); DON’T FORGET THE LIGHTS (Birmingham Rep, mental health festival) and a translation of Brecht’s THE WEDDING (Birmingham Rep Youth Theatre).

Audio plays include THE ARCHERS, numerous episodes (BBC Radio 4); site-specific drama documentaries (Museum of Carpet, prod. Peter Leslie Wild) and DIRTY WASHING (longlisted for the BBC Writers’ Prize).

Publications include: EUROPA (Methuen Drama, Bloomsbury), FIFTY PLAYWRIGHTS ON THEIR CRAFT (Bloomsbury UK/USA), PLAYWRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM (Routledge).

Caroline has also developed collaborative digital playwriting tools that have been used to support training with health care workers in emergency wards, MA students of Criminology exploring restorative justice practices and for writers working in different languages.

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Creative and Critical Writing at Birmingham City University.
