DEBBIE OWEN , a former psychiatric nurse in a secure unit, completed an MA in TV Scriptwriting (De Montfort), before being invited to join Kay Mellor’s Northern Writers Initiative.
Her original TV drama projects include BARKIN’, a six-part comedy drama series (mentored and showcased by Ruth Caleb); SLUGS AND SNAILS, a 90-minute TV film; NECESSARY EVIL, a two-part TV drama optioned by BBC North; DUNCAN, a six-part period drama; and CHAIN, a six-part police drama optioned by ITV.
Debbie has been a regular writer on both CASUALTY (BBC) and DOCTORS (BBC).
Her short film OBSESSION, funded by BFI Network Shorts, was directed by Daymon Britton and starred Kim Tserkezie. It won the 2020 RTS Short Form Film Award.
Debbie is developing feature film BENEATH THE NINTH WAVE, from an idea by David Richardson, and LIFE OF REILLY. She is also developing original TV series and currently dramatizing a crime thriller series with Lynda La Plante based on a trilogy of novels.
