Karina is a London-based playwright and screenwriter.
Originally from Kazakhstan, Karina lived in Russia and Belarus before moving to the UK, where she initially trained as an actor at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and went on to take an MFA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She is also a fluent Russian speaker and writer, contributing research for the Financial Times.
For the stage, Karina’s debut play THE ANARCHIST premiered during the Footprints Festival at Jermyn Street Theatre (2022) and won the inaugural Woven Voices Prize: ‘A beautifully written play for our times’ (Jatinder Verma, Chair of the Woven Voices Prize judging panel). It had its US premiere earlier this year with the LA Dance Project and is published by Nick Hern Books. Her next play, JULIA. AFTER 1984, a contemporary sequel to Orwell’s novel, premiered at the 2025 Brighton Fringe, transferred to the Omnibus Theatre London and to the Edinburgh Festival.
Karina is currently writing a thriller inspired by the 2002 Moscow Theatre siege by a group of Chechen rebels.
