NICHOLA BRUCE (Filmmaker) is known for her innovative approach to the moving image. She has made acclaimed experimental films (I COULD READ THE SKY), feature dramas and documentaries (MOONBUG for Steve Pyke; AXIS OF LIGHT for Pia Getty), including collaborations with artists such as Laurie Anderson (The Human Face, BBC Arena), Rachel Whiteread (The Vienna Monument BBC Arts) and The Dramatic Art of Stephen Berkoff (C4).
Recent work includes three large-scale screen projections created with Sam Sharples for THE SUN FEEDS THE WIND (Hastings Contemporary, 2025), drawing partly on her personal archive to explore the lives of the fishing community; and STRANGENESS OF SEEING, 26 moving-image film poems made with Rebecca E Marshall, exhibited at Electro Studios and as part of Folkestone’s REVEAL, where they were Screen South Showcase Artists.
Together Nichola and Rebecca were also selected for DEVELOP CREATE XR, a nine-month BFI initiative with Screen South and BrightBlack, to develop Bruce’s immersive script HYBRIDISIO. In 2026, Nichola completed the feature documentary SOME THINGS I KNOW ABOUT MY MOTHER AND SOME THINGS I DON’T as writer-director, followed by a 40-minute documentary drawn from her personal archive, featuring post-war artists Fred Cuming RA, Jacqueline Stanley RHA and John Titchell RA and their families living together in Kent at the beginning of the 1960s.
