RICHARD CRANE (Writer/Theatre/Radio)
Richard’s plays range from the avant-garde to West End plays and musicals. He has been Resident Dramatist at the National Theatre, Literary Manager at the Royal Court, Fellow in Creative Writing at the University of Leicester, Visiting Writing Fellow at the University of East Anglia, Lecturer in Creative and Dramatic Writing at the University of Sussex, and Writer in Residence at HM Prison Bedford. His plays are published by Heinemann, Chappell Music, Concord Theatricals and Oberon Books.
Nine of his plays have won Edinburgh Festival Fringe First Awards, including THUNDER, THE QUEST, VANITY, SATAN’S BALL, PUSHKIN and ROLLING THE STONE. Other plays include BROTHERS KARAMAZOV, starring Alan Rickman (Edinburgh Festival and the West End); MUTINY!, with David Essex (Piccadilly Theatre, London); VENUS AND SUPERKID, with Milton Reame-James (Arts Theatre and Roundhouse, London); THE POSSESSED, with Yuri Lyubimov and Alfred Schnittke (Odéon, Paris, and the Almeida, London); GOGOL (Royal Court, London; Traverse, Edinburgh; Moscow; and New York); CLOWNMAKER (Edinburgh, London and New York); and BLOODY NEIGHBOURS (National Theatre).
For radio, his work includes UNDERSTUDIES and an adaptation of Iris Murdoch’s THE SEA, THE SEA.
He is co-founder and Associate Director of Brighton Theatre.
